About This Tour

Zanzibar is full of vibrant colors, interesting people, and many small villages that still follow their old traditions. The warm-hearted and welcoming people of Zanzibar are always happy to show you a part of their vibrant culture on this tour, where you will experience ancient healing practices in an underground cave, learn about local housing and living, enjoy a local lunch, and visit a sea weed farm and factory. This cultural tour will enrich you with an authentic picture of Zanzibar!

The tour will start with a pick-up from your hotel at around 8:30 am. The first destination will be the well-known Jozani Forest along Zanzibar’s East Coast, where you will have the opportunity to see the iconic Red Colobus monkeys with their red backs. Zanzibar is the only place in the world where you can find this beautiful species. You will have a guided tour through the monkey forest as well as the bordering mangrove forest.

Afterwards, you will continue your tour to Muungoni village, where you will visit the Ngonga Cave and learn many interesting things about the local culture. Your guide will explain old traditional medicine treatments, and you will meet a witch doctor who will show you how the treatment is done and the crafts they used, as well as the various uses for their medicine.

You will also head to Kizimkazi Village to visit the oldest mosque in East Africa, the Dimbani Old Mosque, and explore the village to see local housing and living. You will get to taste the local cuisine during your local lunch.

The last destination on your tour will be Paje Village on the East Coast shore. Here, you will get to see a local sea weed factory where the locals produce different kinds of products out of the ocean green. You will also get to see a sea weed farm and learn how they plant and harvest the sea weed. This will conclude your cultural East Coast tour, and you will be transferred back to your hotel with great impressions of the local living, culture, and nature.
