Mount Meru
Mount Meru is a dormant stratovolcano located 70km /43miles western of Mt Kilimanjaro,in southeast Arusha city Tanzania..Much of its bulk was lost about 7800 years ago due to a summit collapse.Mount Meru recently had a minor eruption in1910.The several small cones and craters seen in the vicinity probably reflect numerous episodes of volcanic activity left with the caldera of 2.2 miles (3.5km)wide.
Mount Meru is the fifth highest point of Africa,and the topographic centerpiece of Arusha National Park.
The Momela route which starts at Momela gate on Eastern side of the mountain is used to climb Mount Meru .
Its fertile slopes rise above the surrounding Savanna and support a forest that hosts diverse Wildlife including nearly 400 species of birds .
