Stone Town Tour

About This Tour

This is a Half-Day guided Tour that explores all of Stone Town’s cultural and historical attractions while providing a deep insight into the rich culture and history of this World Heritage Site. Depending on your accommodation, you will be picked up at around 8:30 am and transferred to Stone Town. Your tour starts at the Anglican Church, where a professional local guide will give you an introduction to the history of Stone Town, also known as Old Town or Zanzibar Town.

The tour includes visits to the old slave chambers, the Monument of the Slaves, and ancient auction sites. Your guide will inform you about the history of slave trade on Zanzibar. The next cultural attraction on your tour will be a visit to the local Darajani Market, divided into four areas: meat, fish, chicken, and vegetables, fruits, and spices. Experience local living and get to know the local cooking habits!

After your visit to the market, you will wander through the streets while your guide explains the significance of the famous Zanzibar doors, until you reach the Old Dispensary, an artistic old building with a rich history, located close to the harbor. Climb to the top and enjoy stunning views over the harbor!

Your tour continues to the Freddie Mercury House, the birthplace of the Queen frontman in 1946. It’s a must-see for all Queen fans! Next, you will see the iconic Sultan House, also called the House of Wonders, which consists of a museum about local culture, clothes, religion, and crafts. Your tour ends at the African House, where you can refresh, have a drink, and enjoy the sunset (if you do the tour in the evening). After that, you will be transferred back to your hotel with many great memories of the local culture, history, and traditions.
